Calling all Choirs

Would your choir like to participate in the World Meeting of Families 2018?

If so, we would be delighted to have your group become part of our Massed Choirs for each day of the Pastoral Conference and the Papal Mass.

Choirs will play a crucial role in our liturgical celebrations at the World Meeting of Families 2018. As a result, we are allocating up to 1000 choir seats at each Mass of the Pastoral Congress in the RDS and 5000 choir seats at the Papal Mass in the Phoenix Park. Here is the breakdown for each of the four days:

  • Wednesday 22nd August 2018 – Mass Choir of 1000 singers from the Armagh/Dublin Provinces
  • Thursday 23rd August 2018 – Mass Choir of 1000 singers from the Tuam/Dublin Provinces
  • Friday 24th August 2018 – Mass Choir of 1000 singers from the Cashel Province
  • Sunday 26th August 2018 – Mass Choir of 5000 singers

Submitting Your Choir Application for any day Wednesday/Thursday/Friday/Sunday

The closing date for applications is Friday 18th May 2018. Choirs will need to contact their Diocesan Representative to submit their application.

Call for Youth Choirs

World Meeting of Families 2018 extends a special welcome to youth/children choirs from around the country. We are specifically looking for approximately 12 -15 groups who have established music teams to teach the music and look after safeguarding requirements such as parental consent forms.

The closing date for applications is also Friday 18th May 2018. Please send these applications directly to our Liturgical Music Coordinator, Derek Mahady at derek.mahady@worldmeeting2018.ie. Please also include information relating to special requirements/access.

Due to safeguarding requirements, those adults accompanying youth/children choirs will need to register, to complete Garda Vetting, and submit a photograph for a badge we will issue for access on the day. It is essential that this process commence no later than Wednesday 30th May 2018.

Can I just attend and sing with my Parish from the general seating area?

If you or your choir would prefer to travel to the World Meeting of Families events along with your parish or diocesan groupings and sing from your place in the congregation, particularly at the Papal Mass, we heartily encourage this.

Singers and Choirs can easily register to attend the Pastoral Congress as a pilgrim group in the RDS in the normal way and book a place through the World Meeting of Families 2018 webpage. This enables individuals and groups to travel with their parish and become much needed music animators within their own community groupings.

Repertoire

In choosing music, the Liturgy Committee has prioritised repertoire that maximises congregational involvement, drawing on the “Sing the Mass” publication and including works by Irish composers so that our native culture is well represented. For example, the Eucharistic Acclamations for Masses at the Pastoral Congress in the RDS feature Bernard Sexton’s ‘Mass of Renewal’, as this is included in the “Grow in Love” Primary Schools Religion Programme.
