Prof. Salvador Ryan, Professor of Ecclesiastical History, Faculty of Theology, St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth
Salvador Ryan is Professor of Ecclesiastical History at St Patrick’s College, Maynooth, and has published widely on the theme of popular devotion from the Middle Ages to the present day. A member of the European Network on the Instruments of Devotion (ENID), he is also joint Review Editor of Irish Theological Quarterly. His recent publications include three volumes of Treasures of Irish Christianity (Dublin: Veritas, 2012-15); The Materiality of Devotion in Late Medieval Northern Europe: Images, Objects and Practices (Dublin: Four Courts Press, 2016); Death and the Irish: a Miscellany (Dublin: Wordwell Books, 2016); and Remembering the Reformation: Martin Luther and Catholic Theology (Minneapolis: Fortress Press, 2017). His Marriage and the Irish: a Miscellany will be published by Wordwell Press early in 2019. Salvador grew up in Moneygall, County Offaly, but now lives in Thurles, County Tipperary. He has four sons, ranging in age from three to twelve years old.
